Spicy Strawberry Margarita

This margarita was made for sunny afternoon drinking, in fact you’ll probably have to step outside to drink it. Spicy red chilli, sweet strawberry, sour & zesty lime, and salty strong tequila - sounds amazing right? The beautiful colour of this margarita is owed to strawberry tea, but if you don’t have some you could also use fresh or frozen strawberries shaken up with the tequila (just make sure you strain it before serving!)


  • 1 red chilli, roughly chopped

  • 1 tablespoon coarse salt, for glass rims

  • 2 shots (120ml) blanco tequila

  • 1 shot (60ml) Cointreau

  • 1 shot (60 ml) fresh lime juice

  • 1 shot (60 ml) strongly brewed strawberry tea (I used T2 strawberry sensation), or 3 strawberries roughly chopped

  • 1 wedge of lime, for serving

  • Ice


  • Take a pinch of salt and add it to your cocktail shaker, with the remaining scatter it over a small plate. Run the lime wedge around the rims of 2 serving glasses and dip rims in salt and set aside.

  • In the cocktail shaker, combine tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, chilli pieces, and strawberry tea. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice and shake until thoroughly chilled, about 20 seconds.

  • Fill glasses with fresh ice and strain the strawberry margarita into both glasses. Garnish with lime or mint and serve.
