Spiced Apple Whiskey Sour
This cocktail is Apple Pie meets a Whiskey Sour! Think comforting and spicy apple - cinnamon- cardamom - sugary - goodness and your favourite whiskey with a drop of lemon! Sounds perfect right?! Give this recipe a try and be the judge!
This recipe makes 2 cocktails, to make a batch simply increase the quantity and serve in a jug!
INGREDIENTS
For the spiced apple syrup:
2 apples, cored and sliced
1 cardamom pod
1 clove
1 star anise
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons of maple syrup, brown sugar or honey
1 cup of water
For the cocktail assembly;
2 shots of whiskey or bourbon of choice
1 shot of fresh lemon juice
2 shots of spiced apple syrup
Large ice cubes
For garnish: a pinch of ground cinnamon and lemon peel, optional
INSTRUCTIONS
Put a small pot on high heat. Add apples, spices, maple syrup (or honey or sugar) and water to the pot.
Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally brfore reducing heat to medium - low. Simmer for 15 minutes or until the mixture has reduced slightly.
Carefully strain mixture, discarding any fruit pieces then bottle syrup. Set aside to cool at room temperature ( this can be stores in the fridge for up to two weeks).
In a cocktail shaker or jug add whiskey, ice, lemon juice and syrup. Give it a good stir until the shaker is chilled and everything is mixed well.
To serve; pour into whiskey tumblers and add large ice cubes. Garnish with lemon peel and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Notes:
If you are making this ahead spritz the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning. It’s also a good idea to chill the syrup and alcohol in the fridge.
