Orange and Star Anise Mulled Wine

Ever tried a bottle of red that didn’t take your fancy? Turn it into sangria... or in the winter months MULLED WINE!

There’s truly nothing like mulled wine, it’s so warming, fragrant and filled with beautiful spices! This is my super simple recipe for a classic orange and star anise mulled wine! Please enjoy!

Serves 8

  • 1 750 bottle of red wine (anything is suitable, nothing fancy needed here!)

  • 1 teaspoon of cloves

  • 1 cinnamon stick (or 1 teaspoon of ground)

  • 2 star anise

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of dark brown sugar (or to taste)

  • 1 fresh orange, rinds and segmented

  • Put a milk pan on low heat and add all ingredients then give it a quick stir. Simmer on low heat for around 10 -15 minutes (avoid letting the wine boil as it will evaporate off the alcohol).

  • To serve, strain mulled wine over a fine mesh strainer and ladle into mugs or teacups. Please enjoy!

Notes: The mulled wine can be kept warm on the stove top for up to 3 hours, just keep it covered and on the lowest heat possible!
